Lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds are both real diamonds with the same chemical, physical, and optical properties. The main differences lie in their origin and creation process:

  • Natural Diamonds: Formed deep within the Earth over billions of years under extreme pressure and high temperatures. They often contain trace amounts of other substances like nitrogen or boron, which can give them color, and inclusions from foreign material trapped during their formation.
  • Lab-Grown Diamonds: Created in controlled laboratory environments that replicate the conditions under which natural diamonds form. They can be produced in a matter of weeks using two main methods: High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). Lab-grown diamonds typically do not have the trace elements found in natural diamonds, making them chemically purer.

While they are virtually identical in appearance, lab-grown diamonds are generally less expensive and considered a more ethical choice due to the controlled conditions of their production. However, natural diamonds carry a unique allure and history due to their ancient and natural origins.
